10 to 140 million women are still subjected to female genital mutilation in countries like Sudan, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Yemen and Guinea.  The statement by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) was issued in observance of International Day Against Female Genital Mutilation.

 The International Day Against Female Genital Mutilation falls on February 6th.
