Sudan Government and JEM start direct peace talks in Doha, Wednesday

Direct peace talks between the Justice and Equality Movement and the government is expected to start Wednesday in the Qatari capital Doha. Reuters News Agency reported that the Justice and Equality Movement said that April's legislative and presidential elections should be postponed so that the group and the millions suffering in Darfur from a seven-year rebellion could participate.

National Congress Party signs Electoral Code of Conduct

The African Union announced that the National Congress Party has signed the Electoral Code of Conduct in Khartoum. In a released press statement, the Union said that the voluntary code facilitates self regulation for the political parties in the upcoming elections.

Salva Kiir: South Sudan referendum more important than April elections

The First Vice President and President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, said that the Southern Sudan referendum is more important than the upcoming elections scheduled in next April. Addressing the 14th extraordinary summit of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Nairobi, Kiir said if there is any postponement of the general elections, it should not affect the referendum process scheduled for 2011.

Governor of Western Bahr El Gazal State warns organized forces not to get involved in politics

In his first public address, the caretaker governor of Western Bahr El Gazal State, Efesio Kon Ugak, has warned all organized forces in the State not to get involved in politics. Ugak said that he would not relax on his mandate given by the president of southern Sudan to ensure security and peace during the upcoming elections.

Police hold National Party's boss responsible for attacks in Darfur

The Sudanese police authority has held the Secretary General of the National Party, Saddig Mohammed Ismail, responsible for the recent attacks against it in Darfur. Addressing the press, the police spokesman, Lt. General Mohammed Abdel Al Majeed Al Tyeb, said that Mr Ismail and his family moved to Al Fursan Locality without permission from the police.

Jebel Marra in hands of Sudanese army, spokesman says

The Sudan Armed Forces said on Monday it has taken control of the strategic Jebel Marra in Darfur after fresh fighting been the government forces and the rebels. Al Sawarmi Khalid Saad, the army spokesperson, told the press on Monday there are still occasional clashes which have no bearing on the overall situation in the area.

President Bashir: Government ready to negotiate with all Darfur movements

The President of the Republic, Omar Al Bashir, said that the government is ready to negotiate with any Darfur movement that will decide to join Doha forum. He further rejected the condition set by the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) requesting all Darfuri movements to unite under its leadership before the official start of peace negotiations.

18 killed in tribal clashes in Jonglei State

At least 18 people were killed in a fresh tribal clashes over cattle in Ajuwara district of Akobo County, Jonglei State. The Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) youth league in Jonglei, Paul Kuakuak, said that the recent conflict involved the Anyuak and Murle communities.

$3 million to relocate faculty of law of Juba University from Khartoum to Juba

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Joint Donor Team in South Sudan said that they will pay 3 million US Dollars for the relocation of Juba University College of Law from Khartoum to Juba. The announcement came during a one-day round table workshop held in Juba on Monday to discuss the faculty’s relocation process.
