Sudan calls on World Bank to cancel its debt before referendum

Sudan has called on the World Bank to cancel its debt before January's referendum. The World Bank says before it can decide to write of Sudans' debt, the government must carry out certain conditions, such as implementing economic reforms to reduce poverty. The deputy chairperson of the World Bank Obigal Isaac Wisley, told Radio Miraya in a press conference that the World Bank will not be involved in deciding the overall responsibility for debts between North and South Sudan.

Kidnapped Russian pilots in Darfur released

The Spokesman of the Sudan Armed Forces, Al-Sawarmi Khalid Saad, said that three Russian aircrew kidnapped on Sunday in Nyala in South Darfur State have been released following negotiations with the kidnappers. Meanwhile, the Russin Envoy to Sudan, Mikhaeil Margelov, expressed his country's concern on Sudan's inability to provide necessary security to Russian civilians working in Sudan.

Southern Sudanese Musicians open 6-day symposium in Juba

A six- day symposium for southern sudanese musicians has begun in Juba on Monday. The event is being organized by France and German Cultural Centres in collaboration with the Southern Sudan Ministry of Culture and Heritage. The Director of Goethe-Institute in Sudan, Lilli Kobler, said the aim of the conference is to build a legal framework for southern sudanese artists while also giving them an opportunity to network with each other.
